Your Dollars in Action.

The women representing the Circle of Sisterhood have begun their journey, departing last night and landing in Senegal today. You can meet them here. In the last week we’ve received many more details about the village we’ll be serving, the school we will be building, and the build itself. We couldn’t wait to share with you, and give you some more information about how to follow along!

The BuildOn staff in Senegal has chosen Ndoffane Boure as the village where the school will be contructed. It was chosen from a number of villages. Ndoffane Boure is in the Fatick region of Senegal. Check out the map for an idea of where it is geographically.  

Ndoffane Boure currently has a temporary school in place, which serves 170 students in 1st-3rd grade. The Minsitry of Education has provided two teachers for the school. In an e-mail from our buildOn contact we learned, “The entire community is very excited about the construction of a new school.  Currently, the students are learning in a small building that was intended to store food for a school feeding program as well as a temporary structure built by the community.”

The community of Ndoffane Boure has been promised a school before.  A construction company was given a contract to build a real classroom for these students, but he did not follow through on his commitment. Because the contractor made off with the funds for the school build, the villagers  resorted to using the building intended to store food. BuildOn tells us “this community is very eager to participate as a full partner in the buildOn Circle of Sisterhood-sponsored school because they know the school will be started and finished within just 12 weeks.”

The villagers are so excited for us to arrive. They’ve already assigned themselves to project work groups, assembled all of the materials they need and assigned leadership roles. Now they are just waiting for  our Trek Team to arrive! Because of you, our support campuses and individual donors, the children of Ndoffane Boure will actually get a real school building. Their path to education and a better life has never been more accessible. As we realize our first school build, we cannot thank you enough. Without all of the support from sorority women across the country, there is no way any of this would be possible.
