Grantee Spotlight: She’s The First

The Circle of Sisterhood Foundation is proud to announce our newest grant recipient in 2013: She’s The First. The mission of She’s The First is to “sponsor girls’ education in the developing world, helping them be the first in their families to graduate. In the process, She’s the First fosters leadership and global awareness in young Americans, by inspiring them to lead creative fundraisers and correspond with sponsored students. “Our efforts shape a rising generation of well-educated global leaders, future philanthropists, and cross-cultural communicators.”

Circle of Sisterhood strongly identifies with this mission, as it aims to enable motivating educated women to assist in educating women, and is excited to work with She’s The First moving forward.

This grant will directly sponsor a comprehensive year of education for a student in India, who will lead her peers’ participation in one workshop at the XX Summit, via Skype.  The XX Summit is a participant-driven “un-conference” for the first-ever United Nations’ International Day of the Girl- an event the Circle of Sisterhood celebrated for the first time this year.  This student will be a She’s the First scholar in India.  The student who will serve in this role will receive a sponsorship at the Shanti Bhavan school in India, this includes room, board, clothing, medical expenses, and all additional necessities at the boarding school.
