Grantee Spotlight: College Mentors for Kids

cmfkOver the course of the year, the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation supports many great causes internationally through its grant program. These grants are supported by the money raised by sorority women across the country. We’ve raised money to support women and children across the globe, from the smallest African Village all the way to Thailand. While we love to help far and wide, and we know that in the United States we are far more privileged then most, we know that there is still work to be done for our women and girls here too! Circle of Sisterhood is proud to support College Mentor for Kids through a domestic grant for the second time, to help girls in the United States come one step closer to making their college dreams a reality. We are so proud to be able to provide continued support to the program as they better the lives of countless girls.

College Mentors for Kids is an organization founded in Indiana with the purpose of “improving the livelihood of women by educating girls and women, which improves their lives and that of their families.” There are over 700 girls in the program, which focuses on providing them with tools and an understanding of the importance of education, financial sustainability, and giving back to the community. The girls in this program come from homes well below the poverty line, and have little to no access to adults with college educations. Through pairing them with a college student, these girls have access to women who can help guide them to turn their college dreams into a reality.

The grant Circle of Sisterhood is providing will fully finance the mentorship of five girls for an entire year. This year will provide them each with 20 campus visits- allowing them to spend over 40 hours with their college mentor. This will also cover the training of the women who step up to serve as mentors to these girls. As a result of the money our support campuses have raised, five girls will now have a chance to find a mentor who will positively impact their lives.

Looking to get more involved with College Mentors for Kids? Not surprisingly, many of our support campuses have chapters of College Mentors for Kids on their campuses. Interested in getting involved with an existing chapter or starting one on your campus? Check out College Mentors for Kids website to get involved today: http://www.collegementors.org/.
